Kanga Yoga
Kanga Yoga is the in-house signature yoga style at Kanga Studio Nairobi and is inspired by the teachings of Swami Sivananda, Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and Sri Krishna Pattabhi Jois. It is an energetic, alignment‐based flow yoga practice using music, gravity and the breath to nurture and heal the body and the mind.
Kanga yoga aims to deepen the student’s practice, not only by providing a practical understanding of yoga, but also an opportunity to focus on specific postures, correct alignment and breath control.
With its multi-style approach, Kanga Yoga offers flexibility to adapt each class depending on the specific needs and energy level of the individual. This flexibility is very important, as according to Ayurveda, our body types and inner energetic makeup can vary greatly depending not only on our genetic material and personal lifestyle, but also on the unique constellation of our subtle energies, the so-called doshas. If our doshas happen to get out of balance, we are more prone to illness and disease. Kanga yoga offers a wonderful way to re-establish this balance, integrating sound, asana and mudra to restore harmony and peace in our body, mind and soul. Lastly, Kanga Yoga can also be understood as a gentle invitation to explore and/or rediscover one’s spiritual path.
Kanga Yoga is a fantastic way of immersing yourself into a regular practise of yoga, whether you are a beginner or advanced practitioner. Expect to practise some breathwork, break a bit of a sweat, feel marvelously challenged and be rewarded at the end of the session – by experiencing the effects of a deep relaxation technique. You will feel uplifted and rejuvenated leaving your mat!
For Melina, practicing yoga means embarking on a colorful, multidimensional path of change and growth. Fascinated with the ripple effects of yoga, she continuously yearns to go deeper, embarking on additional teacher trainings year by year, – and always looking for opportunities to share the magic with others.
