Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga blending traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist principles with asanas (postures), where the practitioner may stay up to 5 minutes or more in one shape. In contrast to an energetic yang yoga practice which targets the muscles, Yin Yoga works into the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues – ligaments, joints, bones, the deep fascia and the meridians.
Conscious steady breathing combined with the application of controlled levels of stress to different body parts triggers healing at the deepest physiological level. At the same time, on the energetic level, Yin yoga improves the free flow of Qi (energy) in the organs.
Apart from the physical benefits, Yin Yoga efficiently promotes emotional and mental health, as it gives the practitioner time and space to allow emotions, thoughts and feelings one may have kept in the shadows, to surface. Subconscious or emotional blockages may be released and gift the practitioner with a much clearer mind.
